Theater
There are also many theaters in the region. The youngest and smallest of them is the Municipal Theater of Aalen, which shows a mixture of modern drama and classical pieces. Additionally, Aalen offers an open air theater once a year. Meanwhile, the Municipal Theater of Aalen, which was founded in 1991, is of national importance.
The Kulturbuero in Schwaebisch Gmuend offers a wide range of first-class theater events. The productions and the stage actors and actresses blend very well. Many productions invite the audience to participate. Musical theater includes opera, operetta and ballet.
In Heidenheim, romantically located on the castle hill across the Schloss Hellenstein, a big open air stage, since its founding in 1924, offers shows for adults as well as children. What makes this special is that the people are not professional actors and actresses. They are just ordinary laymen playing their roles in a most natural way. The tradition of a yearly childrens´ play started in 1976 with “Raeuber Hotzenplotz.”
Cabaret, jazz, and world music is presented in the “Lokschuppen” in Heidenheim.
In the city library, authors read from their work.
Another creative theater group named “Sasse” is located in the restored “Stadel” in Schnaitheim. Some of their productions were even shown on television.
The Theater Ring Heidenheim shows, for both young and old, professional theater, music theater and puppet theater, which can be seen in the concert house or in the Waldorf School in Heidenheim. Subscriptions for the different shows can be booked.
Also in the Congress Center in Heidenheim, culture, theater, and music are offered.
