The Zentrum für Oberflächentechnologie Schwäbisch Gmünd e.V. (ZOG) is a surface technology centre in which many associations and companies joined forces in 1986 in their aim to promote advanced and further education in the field of surface technology. Other objectives of the centre are technology transfer, the organisation of events for members of the profession, and supporting SMEs on the basis of latest scientific discoveries.

The Fachschulen für Galvano- und Leiterplattentechnik are incorporated into the Commercial College in Schwäbisch Gmünd. To qualify, it is necessary to have completed vocational training and gained subsequent working practice. Besides galvano-technics and printed board engineering, which are full-time courses, the surface technology department also offers a Berufsschule für Galvaniseure und Metallschleifer.

Training at the Berufskolleg für Design, Schmuck und Gerät encompasses in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of design as well as skills in the crafting of jewellery and utensils from precious materials. This instruction is in preparation for advanced occupational or academic training.

The Fachschule für Schmuck und Gerät is another further education section at the professional schools that requires a completed apprenticeship in the precious metals industry. The 2-year course prepares students for a middle management position in gold- and silversmith businesses. At the same time it is possible to take the examination to become a master craftsman in the gold- and silversmith trade. The Berufsschule für Gold- und Silberschmiede, Fasser und Feinpolierer provides sandwich courses for apprentices working in the field of precious metals.
