Creativity and innovation are the strengths of Ostwuerttemberg (East Wuerttemberg). The fertile ground for talents and patents in Ostwuerttemberg exists thanks to a diverse system of higher education, a broad spectrum of research institutions and a multitude of research transfer centers that link research with real-world experience. A little less than 10,000 students are divided between the four universities and the two distance education study centers in Ostwuerttemberg. In addition, there are more than 20 knowledge-transfer centers affiliated with the Steinbeis Foundation. As a substantial part of Ostwuerttemberg’s educational system, research and the transfer of knowledge into the business world are essential to its innovative power.
